The Bradley Bunch are a traditional and contemporary Irish music band based in the South of Holland, predominantly coming from the Hague. They are probably one of the oldest Irish bands to still exist in the Netherlands, with very little change in the line up for over 25 years.
Their music has a unique sound and quality, mainly due to its being an all stringed instrument band, especially in combination with a 5 string fretless bass, not a common instrument used in traditional Irish music, adding more drive and depth to the music.
The Bradley Bunch’s repertoire consists of rapid fire jigs and reels, flighty hornpipes and polkas, sultry waltzes and slow airs and of course, a plethora of heart melting ballads and upbeat songs that ensures to keep the feet tapping and the Guinness flowing.
Sharon Bradley, guitar, vocals and bodhran, is as the band name suggests, the backbone of the band. Hailing from Athlone, Ireland, where Sharon enjoyed much success as a singer/guitarist playing alongside such renowned players as Martin O’Connor and others before falling for a Dutch fella and also moving to the Netherlands, many moons ago.
Hendrik Jan Teerink, mandolin, banjo and bouzouki, lives in Leiden and has been playing Irish music for as long as he can remember, often travelling to Ireland to join in the sessions and soak up the music and atmosphere. He is also an active player in the local sessions here in the Netherlands.
Dick Hoppe, bass and vocals, a native of The Hague, developed a love and passion for Irish music like a man possessed and hasn’t looked back since. Dick played in Moody Sec, a band well known in the ‘60s and ’70s. His earlier influences were jazz/blues/rock. He’s also the sound engineer and wheels of the band.
Jimmy Ellis, fiddle, mandolin, guitar and vocals, first came in contact with Irish music in Manchester, England through a formidable fiddle player and mentor, Tony Trundle. In the beginning Jimmy learnt his trade playing on the streets and travelling around the UK, Ireland and Europe, playing with many accomplished musicians and bands before settling down in the Netherlands.
